OIT web services backed out of using ipsCA certs after the lag problems we had with webauth. See this previous discussion: http://ncsuwebdev.ning.com/forum/topics/wrap-has-turned-extremely-slow We do still have 4 certs signed by ipsCA, and I've hea…

Nick, I noticed that you have replaced your ipsca cert with one from godaddy. Was there a particular reason. I have one ipsca cert on one of my sites and I noticed that the root cert will expire on 30 Dec 09 (this month). I am concern and considerin…

Ubuntu support is nice. When it comes to an "Apps Installer" system, if Frozen Bubble isn't an option, it's time to move on.

Just found an alternative to ninite.com --- "AllMyApps" http://lifehacker.com/5396524/allmyapps-bulk+installs-your-favorite-apps-makes-system-rebuilding-less-painful Haven't tested it yet, but seems to do the same thing.

New Tool to manage jQuery scrollable content... "TWSS"

TWSS: The Web Slide Scroller

I've just finished making a test-able version of a web-based tool that allows you to manage the content for a use with the jQuery scrollable plugin.

Did that make sense? Check this out for an example:

http://www.ncsu.edu/project/njyoung-dev/dev/scrollable/

The tool allows you to upload thumbnails (the navigation bar), images for the actual slide, and manage the content as well (text, pub… Continue

Free SSL Certificates for EDU Sites

I just got through the process of adding an exception for the invalid or untrusted certificate at the Open Source website for NCSU: https://opensource.ncsu.edu/FossFair2009

Go ahead...I'll wait while you see what i mean.

It made me remember that there's no reason for this to happen for an EDU domain, thanks to IPSCA (http://certs.ipsca.com). In my previous employmen… Continue

Webinar Wrapup: Everything you wanted to know about Drupal, but were afraid to ask

I just finished a Drupal webinar provided by O'Reilly media. It was a decent webinar, just to get some information 'from the horse's mouth,' but didnt really fill in any true gaps in my understanding of Drupal's inner workings and intentions. In any case, here's my notes that i jotted down during the hour.

* Basic introduction, describing what Drupal is generally about its history.

* "DeanSpace" website for Howard Dean's presidential bid in 2004 used Drupal, which seemed to start a little bit… Continue

Decision Making Process....

In one discussion at UNCCause08, I began thinking about the process of how we make decisions that affect large numbers of people, whether it be students, faculty, staff or a combination of those groups.

An institution stated that they had based a decision to outsource student email mainly on the findings from a focus group of 21 students. The breakdown for that final feedback data set was:

6000 approximate students
116 individual invitations sent to request participation in the focus group
21… Continue
